Petra Kaster wuchs im Ruhrgebiet auf und studierte an der Folkwangschule für Gestaltung in Essen und am Art´s Institute/Lesley College in Boston.
Erste Cartoons und Comics entstanden aus Notwehr gegen Schulzwänge und Lateinkoma (Illustration der Punischen Kriege).
Zum Zeichnen und der freien Grafik kam während des Studiums noch der Animationsfilm hinzu.
Es folgten freiberufliche Tätigkeit als Animationsfilmerin für verschiedene Fernsehanstalten (SWF, WDR, NDR, ZDF), Buchveröffentlichungen (Fischer, Lappan, Tomus, Rowohlt Verlag u.a.), Ausstellungen, freiberufliche Tätigkeit für Tageszeitungen (Rheinpfalz, Rheinische Post, Mannheimer Morgen, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Sächsische Zeitung, BNN u. a.) und Satiremagazine. (Nebelspalter, Eulenspiegel).
Zur Zeit lebt Petra Kaster in Mannheim.
