Johann Mayr,
Jahrgang 1956, ist in München geboren und aufgewachsen. Die Schule hat er laut eigener Aussage nur durch ausdauerndes Zeichnen überlebt. Viele Jahre hat er als Gartenarchitekt, Naturschutzbeauftragter und Stadtplaner gearbeitet. Dabei ging ihm manches zu langsam voran. Daher brauchte er ein Ventil und das waren wie bereits in der Schule Feder und Aquarellkasten. „Eine Zeichnung ist halt schneller fertig als ein durchgrüntes Wohnviertel“, sagt Johann Mayr. Ende der 1980er-Jahre wettete er mit einem Kollegen, dass er es mit einer Zeichnung auf die letzte Seite der Süddeutschen Zeitung schafft. Die Wetter gewann er und bald folgten weitere Cartoons, Ausstellungen, über 100 Cartoon-Bücher und Arbeiten für weitere Zeitungen und Zeitschriften, darunter Freundin, Bunte, WAZ, TAZ, Handelsblatt, Schöner Wohnen, Börsenblatt oder Eulenspiegel. Ebenso zeichnete er für eine Satire-Serie des Bayerischen Fernsehens. Eines Tages konnte er seine gut dotierte und krisensichere Stadtplanerstelle an den Nagel hängen und sich fortan seiner eigentlichen Berufung widmen.
